The restaurateur : Why Skostredet is my favourite place in Bergen

Giovanni Sanchez knows Bergen's restaurant and nightlife better than most. Here are his very best tips for the city.

"A visit to Skostredet is a must if you're going to Bergen, whether you are coming here for the first time or have been to the city before," says Giovanni. He works as a restaurateur for De Bergenske and has recently opened the restaurant Fresquito at Bergen Børs Hotel.

Bergen's best restaurants

Giovanni is originally from Chile but has lived in Bergen for the past 35 years. He has opened a number of restaurant concepts, bars, and clothing shops in the city nestled among the mountains and fjords on the west coast of Norway. Several of his business are located in Skostredet.

And it's in this area, with its cobbled streets and wooden buildings, that you will find Bergen's best nightlife, according to Giovanni.

"This is where you will find late night jazz and musical performances," he says.

Skostredet also offers Spanish tapas at Taperia and Mexican cuisine at Poca Madre. You can enjoy delicious cheese and very good wine at Osteria Vinbar and enjoy the nightlife at the pub Folk & Røvere.
