Bergen's best places for entertainment

For local musician Francisco, Madam Felle is the city's best music venue. Here's our essential guide to the coolest places for music, theatre, and drinks in Bergen.

"Visitors love going to Madam Felle for a whole new experience of music, food, and drink," says Francisco Cayo.

He works in De Bergenske at Grand Hotel Terminus, and is an expert on Bergen's entertainment scene. Moreover, he loves to perform as a singer and guitarist himself.

The city of music and entertainment

Madam Felle is a historic restaurant, known for its music scene – both among locals and visitors. You can experience everything from blues to pop at the legendary venue.

"I love people and I love music," says Francisco.

And if you love music and entertainment, you should head to Bergen - regardless of your favourite genre or how long you want to party.

Here are the top five places for a night out in Bergen

1.Frescohallen – DJs in the world's finest bar

At Frescohallen, located in Bergen Børs Hotel, you can gaze at frescoes by the Norwegian artist Axel Revold while sipping Norway's first whisky or having the bartender mix your favourite drink. There is also a DJ!

"It's a fantastic jewel of a room," says concept developer Yngve Hansen in De Bergenske. Discover Yngve's best tips for green spaces in Bergen here.

2. USF Verftet – for the coolest concerts

A former sardine factory, this is Bergen's largest art and cultural arena, hosting everything from major concerts to theatre, film, and art exhibits. Check its website for listings.

3. The cave – iconic rock venue

The cave is a legendary underground music scene, located in a former bomb shelter under Nygårdshøyden, a hill close to the centre that is home to the university. Experience rock, pop, metal and in this unique venue that is a popular place for students.

Check its website for listings.

4. Den Nationale Scene – one of Norway's oldest theatres

The roots of Den Nationale Scene (DNS) stretch back to 1850, and a long line of great actors and poets have been on its stage. Today, you can see well-known plays, musicals, and live podcasts on stage at DNS.

5. Bar Amundsen – for a good whisky

If you are looking for a quieter end to your evening, you should visit the hotel and bar where Francisco works, namely the recently renovated Bar Amundsen.
